Pakistan launches drone strikes in Afghanistan
Pakistan has launched attacks on Afghanistan. The Pakistani army launched drone strikes on various areas along the Afghan border early Sunday (February 22). The Taliban government has not yet commented on the attacks in Pakistan.
However, an Afghan source told Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera that the Pakistani army has targeted two of its provinces. The source said that a drone strike was carried out on a madrasa in Paktika province. The other was in Nangarhar province.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said in a statement that its army had attacked seven hideouts and camps of the terrorist group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliates based on intelligence information. The statement also mentioned that a camp of an organization affiliated with the Islamic State was also attacked.
The Pakistani ministry claimed that it has clear information that several recent attacks, including an attack on a mosque in the capital Islamabad, were carried out on the orders of Afghan-based militant leaders and their associates. Meanwhile, a lieutenant colonel and two soldiers were killed in a suicide attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu division last night. Shortly after, the Pakistani army launched attacks in various parts of Afghanistan.
Earlier on Monday, a suicide bomber with the help of gunmen went to Bajaur and detonated a bomb near a security post. It killed 11 soldiers and a child. Pakistan claimed that an Afghan national carried out the attack. Earlier, on February 6, a suicide attack on a Shia mosque in Islamabad killed 31 people.
