Our enemies are countless, our allies are very few: Mahfuz Alam
Mahfuz Alam, advisor to the interim government, has commented that fascist forces should not be given space in politics. He also called for maintaining unity against fascism, even if it is a little concession.
He said these things in a status posted on the social media platform Facebook last night.
In a status posted on his verified Facebook titled ‘In favor of the people and the middle ground’, Mahfuz Alam said, ‘This coup is for everyone. That is why I rejected the hype created by the media called mastermind from the beginning.’
Mahfuz Alam mentioned, ‘Those who used to make decisions, they talked to many stakeholders (partners) in almost all decisions. To finalize a decision, they had to listen to the opinions of at least 5 to 6 groups and analyze them. As a result, it is actually the result of the collective strategic ability of their decision-making body, as well as the participation and advice of many groups of people. No one is unmentionable. And the people did not sit for anyone’s decision on July 19-33. However, they certainly considered the students of public-private, madrasa-school-college as legitimate (legal) leadership. We have to maintain a middle position.’
He also said, ‘We have to move forward with everyone, but excluding saboteurs. Sabotage or stabbing in the back, the habit of not following the honor code – these are threats to any settlement. Those who think that politics means gentlemen’s agreements (an agreement based on mutual respect) will not exist, should correct themselves.
Mahfuz Alam said, ‘Some of his statements may have hurt the feelings of some, especially the call of the Tawhidi Janata. He sincerely apologizes to those who were offended by his statement.
The advisor said, “In addition, if anyone was hurt by any other statement in the last few months or considered it divisive, then he is in favor of reconsidering his statement. Taking a balanced, anti-divisive and anti-tagging stance is essential for unity among the people. They do not want to be either oppressors or oppressed.”
He said, “Our enemies are countless and they are all powerful. Allies are very few. If we can increase our alliances and defeat the enemies with a little concession, it will ultimately benefit the people of this country.”
Mahfuz Alam said, “The unity of all the forces of the mass uprising is our destination. The possibility of creating a historic bloc was before us. It still is. The anti-fascist and pro-Bangladesh people must compete politically positively among themselves. In no way can fascist forces be given space in politics.”
