Order on framing of charges against Sheikh Hasina today
Tribunal-1 will give its order today on framing of formal charges against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the case of crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising. On Thursday (July 10), the three-member Tribunal-1 headed by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder will issue its order on the case. The other two accused in this case are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun. Among them, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun was produced before the tribunal as Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan are absconding. Sheikh Hasina has been mentioned as the instigator in this case of crimes against humanity. If the charges are framed, the first formal trial of any case against Sheikh Hasina will begin. The first day of the hearing on the framing of charges in this case on July 1 was broadcast live on television and social media. The state party held the hearing that day. Later, Sheikh Hasina’s tribunal-appointed lawyer held the hearing on July 7. He claimed Sheikh Hasina’s innocence that day and sought her release. Earlier, after the formal charge of the case was filed, advertisements were placed in newspapers on the instructions of the tribunal, but the tribunal appointed lawyers for the fugitive Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal as they did not appear. Earlier, the prosecution said that if the charges are framed, the taking of testimony against Sheikh Hasina in the crimes against humanity case could begin by the end of July or the beginning of August.
