One killed, 4 injured in suicide attack in Pakistan

A female suicide bomber killed one security force member and wounded four others in Pakistan on Monday, the US media reported.

The report said that at least one security force member was killed and four others were wounded when a female suicide bomber blew herself up near a military convoy in the southwestern province of Balochistan, Pakistani police said.

A commander of the paramilitary Frontier Corps is believed to have been the target of the bombing in the Kalat district, but he was not injured.

Local police officer Habibullah confirmed the casualties. He said investigators had found body parts of the attacker and concluded from them that the bomber was a woman.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the Kalat attack. However, the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for other violent attacks in the natural resource-rich province of Balochistan in the past, including female bombers.

Female suicide bombers are rare in Pakistan. The last time a female suicide bomber carried out a bombing was in 2022, when a bomber targeted a van carrying Chinese teachers to the Karachi University campus. The van driver and three teachers were killed.
