One dies after eating wedding food, 17 hospitalized
One person died after eating wedding food in Dhamairhat, Naogaon. Another 17 people who fell ill in the incident have been hospitalized. They were taken to the nearby Patnitala Upazila Health Complex on Monday (November 24) morning. Earlier, this incident took place on Sunday (November 23) night in Agradigun village of the upazila. It is learned that the deceased has been identified as Jamal Hossain (38). He is the son of Dalil Uddin of the village. It is learned that he lived in a house rented by the bride’s father.
According to local sources, a meal was organized for about 300 people in Agradigun village of the upazila on the occasion of the wedding of the daughter of a person named Amirul Islam last Sunday night. After eating the food, the guests invited to the event started experiencing severe stomach pain and vomiting. Many had to rush to the toilet in groups. At one point, they started falling ill one by one and were taken to the nearby Patnitala Upazila Health Complex yesterday (November 24) morning.
Meanwhile, the doctor on duty referred the ailing Jamal Hossain to Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) Hospital in a critical condition. Jamal Hossain died on the way to Rajshahi. Local UP Chairman Ismail Hossain Mostaq confirmed the incident, saying, “We are guessing the cause of his death, but no one is sure that the food was from a wedding ceremony. To meet the food shortage, some food was also brought from the hotel and fed to the people. This could also be the cause of food poisoning.” Patnitala Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Khalid Saifullah confirmed, “18 patients fell ill after eating pola and were admitted to the hospital. Of these, 17 are still undergoing treatment. I have learned that one died on the way to Rajshahi. Initially, it seemed that it was due to food poisoning.” Dhamirhat Police Station OC Imam Zafar said, “None of the victims reported the incident to the police station. However, we came to know about the matter through you and police have been sent to the spot.”
