On August 6, 1945, at 8:15 a.m. local time, the US aircraft ‘Enola Gay’ dropped an atomic bomb named ‘Little Boy’ on the city of Hiroshima. The bombing of Hiroshima killed about 140,000 people due to the immediate explosion, fireballs, and subsequent radiation. Exactly three days after this attack, on August 9, another 74,000 people were killed in the second atomic bomb attack on Nagasaki. Then on August 15, Japan surrendered, ending World War II. Today, Hiroshima is a developed city with a population of 1.2 million. But the scars of that past are still vivid in the memories of many.
