Oil Truck Explosion Engulfs 8 Shops, Burns 400 Barrels of Oil.
A devastating explosion in Bagmara Upazila’s Taherpur Bazar, Rajshahi, left eight shops destroyed and over 400 barrels of oil reduced to ashes on Sunday evening.
The chaos began when a Padma Oil tanker was supplying fuel to a local oil shop owned by a businessman named Alif. Witnesses reported that the truck unexpectedly caught fire, leading to a massive explosion that sent flames tearing through the surrounding area. The fire quickly spread to neighboring shops, including Alif’s oil depot.
Four fire service units from Bagmara and Durgapur rushed to the scene, battling the inferno for nearly an hour and a half. By 7:30 PM, the firefighters managed to bring the fire under control, but not before the tanker truck and several shops were entirely consumed by the flames.
The fire destroyed eight shops, including a food hotel, a grocery store, and a workshop. Officials estimated that approximately 400 barrels of oil in Alif’s shop alone were burned. While the exact financial loss is yet to be determined, the destruction has left many livelihoods in tatters.
The explosion shook the bustling marketplace, leaving locals in shock. Many fled the area as the fire raged, and fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. Authorities are now working to assess the full scope of the damage and provide assistance to the affected business owners.
This tragic event serves as a sobering reminder of the risks associated with handling flammable materials and highlights the need for stringent safety measures to prevent such disasters in the future.
