North Korea executes people for watching foreign movies
The United Nations has said that several people have been executed in North Korea for watching and sharing foreign movies and TV series. A recently released report says that North Korea has imposed tight control over almost every aspect of its citizens’ lives in the past decade. The UN report says that surveillance in North Korea has increased dramatically due to modern technology. The report is based on interviews with more than 300 people who have escaped from North Korea in the past decade. At least six of them have escaped execution. The escapees said that since 2020, there have been executions for sharing foreign content. They have been shot. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Falker Turk said that if the situation continues, North Koreans will be subjected to more suffering, brutal torture and terror than ever before. He said that no other population in the world is so persecuted.
