No situation has arisen to hinder the holding of elections in February: Election Commissioner

As ‘Shapla’ is not in the list of symbols as per constitutional laws and rules, it is not possible to give the symbol to the National Citizen Party (NCP), said Election Commissioner Md. Anwarul Islam. He said this in response to questions from journalists in Sylhet today, Sunday (October 19).
He was speaking as the chief guest at a training workshop organized at Sylhet Police Lines to enhance the efficiency of the police to discharge their election duties properly.
The Election Commissioner said, no situation has arisen to hinder the holding of elections in February, the national elections will be held before Ramadan. Stating that there will be no more controversial elections like in the past, he said, a fair and acceptable election will be organized with the cooperation of all and no controversial person will be able to discharge the election duties.
He said, since the activities of the Awami League are suspended, the position of the commission is the statement of the interim government on this issue.
The Election Commissioner also said, since the Awami League is a legally suspended party, their activities are also suspended, as a result they will not be able to participate in the upcoming elections.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Quddus Chowdhury, Sylhet Police Superintendent Mahbubur Rahman and other senior officials were present at the training workshop.
