No compromise on sovereignty of OIC states: Foreign Affairs Adviser
Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Towhid Hossain has said that no compromise will be made on the sovereignty of the member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). At the same time, he reiterated Bangladesh’s full support for the OIC’s joint decision to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.
He made the remarks at the 22nd Special Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday (January 10). The OIC has called for an emergency session to discuss Israel’s recognition of a region in Somalia and its impact on the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Somalia, as well as its wider regional and international implications.
The Foreign Affairs Advisor said, “Bangladesh fully supports the OIC’s collective resolve to uphold international law, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states, and preserve the unity and solidarity of the Muslim world.”
The Foreign Affairs Advisor called on the OIC to unequivocally reject and condemn this recognition of Israel. At the same time, he reiterated its full and unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.
Towhid Hossain said, “The sovereignty of OIC member states will not be compromised in any way. Illegal negotiations and initiatives are never acceptable, and justice, international law, and multilateralism will prevail over unilateral decisions and pressure politics.”
Earlier, a preparatory meeting of senior officials for the special session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) was held yesterday morning with the participation of a large number of representatives of OIC member states. The meeting expressed unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people and reiterated the importance of the Palestinian issue as a core objective of the OIC.
