No autopsy on two burnt bodies, injury marks found in Suratthali
The autopsy of the bodies of Shafiqul Islam and Selim Reza, who were recovered from India after they were washed ashore in the Padma River on the border of Chapainawabganj, has not been completed yet. As a result, the police are unable to find out how they died. However, the police autopsy report mentions that one of them had injury marks all over his body and the other had been burnt with flammable substances. On Sunday (August 3) afternoon, Rajshahi’s Godagari Zone Inspector of the Naval Police, Touhidur Rahman, confirmed this information over his mobile phone. Earlier, on Saturday (August 2) afternoon and afternoon, their bodies were recovered from Tarapur area of Shibganj upazila in the presence of BGB members. Locals claim that they died due to torture by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF). The deceased Shafiqul Islam and Selim Reza’s homes are in Tarapur-Hathatpara of Shibganj upazila. Touhidur Rahman, inspector of the Godagari zone of the Rajshahi Naval Police, said, “Selim Reza’s body has injury marks. There were deep injuries on his head, chest, neck, shoulders, hands and feet. On the other hand, Shafiqul’s body was burnt. His body was burnt with something hot or with a flammable substance. There are blisters all over his body. However, there are no bullet marks on either of the two bodies.” Touhidur Rahman also said, “No case has been filed yet in the case of the recovery of the bodies. The families of the deceased can file a case if they want. If they do not file a case, the police will file a case as the plaintiff.” Locals allege that Shafiqul Islam and Selim Reza were involved in fishing in the Padma River as well as smuggling across the border. Last Thursday (July 28) night, they crossed the border by river and went to India. They have been missing since then. The bodies of Shafiqul and Selim were recovered from the Padma River in the border area of Tarapur on Saturday afternoon and afternoon, respectively. They alleged that the two died due to torture by the BSF.
