New Chief Justice to be sworn in today
The swearing-in ceremony of Zubair Rahman Chowdhury as the country’s 26th Chief Justice will be held today (December 28). President Md. Shahabuddin will administer the oath to him at Bangabhaban at 10:30 am. Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus will be present at the ceremony.
The swearing-in ceremony will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar.
Earlier, on December 24, President Zubair Rahman Chowdhury was appointed as the country’s 26th Chief Justice. His appointment will be effective through the swearing-in ceremony today. The current Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed retired yesterday Saturday. Zubair Rahman Chowdhury will succeed him through the swearing-in ceremony.
It is worth noting that Zubair Rahman Chowdhury was enrolled as a lawyer in the Judges’ Court in 1985 and in the High Court Division in 1987. On August 27, 2003, he was appointed as an additional judge in the High Court Division and his appointment became permanent two years later.
He was appointed as a judge of the Appellate Division on August 12, 2024. After earning LLB (Hons) and LLM degrees from Dhaka University, he earned a Master’s degree in International Law from the United Kingdom.
