New advisor to be sworn in today
Dhaka University Professor CR Abrar is taking oath as the new advisor to the interim government. President Md. Shahabuddin will administer the oath to him at Bangabhaban at 11 am today, Wednesday.
The Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam gave this information at a media briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Hare Road in the capital on Tuesday.
It is believed that Professor Abrar may get the responsibility of Education Advisor. Currently, Professor Wahid Uddin Mahmud is in charge of Education Advisor.
Born in Faridpur in August 1952, CR Abrar has been working as a human rights, labor migration and refugee expert for a long time. After completing his education from Dhaka University as a student, he did his Masters and PhD in the UK and Australia respectively. Later, he joined Dhaka University as a teacher in 1979.
He is the executive director of the Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RAMRU), a well-known organization on refugee and migration issues in Bangladesh. He has also been working with Rohingya refugees for a long time. C. R. Abrar Abrar played a key role in organizing camps for Urdu-speaking youth to establish Bangladeshi citizenship.
