Netanyahu warns of severe attack if ceasefire fails.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that Israel is ready to resume fighting Hamas if the second phase of ceasefire talks fails.
He made the warning in a televised address on Saturday evening.
Noting that the ceasefire is temporary and the operation is not over, Netanyahu said, “Israel has the right to attack Gaza again. Both outgoing US President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump support it. If we start attacking again, it will be even stronger.”
“Hamas is now completely alone. We have changed the face of the Middle East,” the Israeli prime minister said.
“Israel will not end the ceasefire until it receives a list of the hostages released by Hamas. Israel will not tolerate violations of the agreement.”
A list of the 33 hostages released in the first phase of the ceasefire has been published in various Israeli media outlets. But government officials have not yet confirmed the list.
Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire on Wednesday after 15 months of fighting. The first phase of the ceasefire will last 42 days. In the first phase of the ceasefire, Israel will release more than 1,890 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the release of 33 hostages. Egypt, one of the mediators of the ceasefire, announced the information.
