Netanyahu to visit US

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is to visit the United States. He will leave for the United States on Sunday (December 28) and meet US President Donald Trump in Florida the next day, an Israeli official told AFP.
This is Netanyahu’s fifth meeting with Trump in the United States this year. The visit comes as the Trump administration and regional mediators are pushing for a second phase of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Trump told reporters during a visit to his Mar-a-Lago resort in mid-December that Netanyahu would likely visit him in Florida for the Christmas holiday.
“He wants to meet with me,” he said. “We haven’t made any formal decisions yet, but he wants to meet.” The Israeli daily Idiot Aharonot reported on Wednesday that the meeting could cover a range of important regional issues. These include the Iran issue, negotiations on the Israel-Syria security agreement, the ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon, and the next steps on the Gaza deal.
