Netanyahu cancels India visit for the third time due to security risks
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has cancelled his visit to India again. He has cancelled the visit due to security reasons after the horrific terrorist attack in New Delhi. This is the third time this year that an Israeli Prime Minister has cancelled his visit to India. Indian media outlet NDTV reported this information in a report on Tuesday (November 25) citing Israeli media outlet i24news.
The report said that the terrorist attack that took place in New Delhi two weeks ago was the deadliest in almost a decade. At least 15 people were killed and many more were injured. In this situation, Netanyahu’s visit to India may be postponed until next year until a new security assessment is completed.
Earlier, it was reported that he would visit New Delhi before the end of this year to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, the Israeli Prime Minister has cancelled his plans to visit India for the third time this year. Earlier, Netanyahu was scheduled to visit India on September 9 for a one-day visit, but it was later postponed. He cited his busy re-election campaign in Israel on September 17 as the reason. He canceled a trip to Delhi ahead of the April election. Netanyahu’s visit is seen by many as an attempt to show his acceptance in global politics. In July, his Likud Party campaign featured Netanyahu on a banner alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The campaign was designed to position him among the world’s top leaders. Netanyahu last visited India in January 2018. Modi visited Israel in 2017. It was the first visit to Tel Aviv by an Indian prime minister.
