Netanyahu Apologizes to President to Avoid Corruption Case
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has apologized to President Isaac Herzog to avoid an ongoing corruption case. In a video message, he said he was ready to face the full process of the case. However, he changed his mind in the national interest.
The president’s office said Herzog would seek the opinion of judicial officials on the matter. The Israeli prime minister has been on trial for five years in multiple cases on charges of bribery, fraud and abuse of power. However, Netanyahu has denied all the charges.
The country’s opposition leaders claim that Netanyahu must first admit his guilt to apologize. Many Israelis are angry about his apology. Many took part in a protest in front of President Isaac Herzog’s private residence on Sunday.
