NCP and Ganadhikar to merge in October
Ahead of the 13th National Parliament elections, the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) and Ganadhikar Parishad have taken a principled decision to merge. Progress was made in this regard in a meeting of top leaders of both parties on September 19. It is expected that a formal announcement of the merger will be made in October.
Ganadhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Noor and General Secretary Md. Rashed Khan will make a final decision after the position is clear. Discussions are underway on the leadership structure and new name. NCP has proposed creating a new post for Noor, but no decision has been made on Rashed Khan’s position yet.
Leaders say that both parties were born through movements – from quota reform, DUCSU elections to the recent July movement, there is an active presence of youth. Therefore, if the merger is successful, a strong platform for youth in politics will be created.
Ganadhikar leader Rashed Khan said, “Our thinking is the same. If we work together to fulfill the expectations of the people, positive results will come.” NCP joint convener Ariful Islam Adib also said that the unity of the two parties will give new strength to the young generation in politics. NCP and Ganadhikar leaders are optimistic that it will be possible to announce a positive outcome of the talks in the first week of October.
