The ship set sail from the port at 3:30 pm local time. Thousands of activists, supporters and well-wishers were present during the boat trip. Hours before the departure, Swedish activist and environmentalist Greta Thunberg condemned Israel’s genocide against Palestinians. Several other high-ranking figures traveling with the flotilla made similar statements. Thunberg said, “Israel is very clear about its genocidal intentions. They want to wipe out the Palestinian people. They want to occupy the Gaza Strip.” She pointed the finger at the government, which is failing to comply with international law.
