Names of 10 roads and buildings of the capital have changed
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is changing the names of five roads, parks and bridges named after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s relatives. Among them, the names of the two former mayors of the organization, Mohammad Saeed Khokon and Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, have also been changed.
This decision was taken in the fourth corporation meeting of DSCC on Wednesday. The newly appointed administrator of DSCC presided over the meeting. Shah Jahan Mia. In the meeting, the name of Freedom Fighter Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Sarni was changed to Inner Ring Road, the name of Freedom Fighter Sheikh Jamal Sarni was changed to Jhauchar Main Road, the name of Freedom Fighter Advocate Kamrul Islam Sarni was changed to Kamrangirchar Loharpool-Buriganga Road, Shaheed Sheikh Russell Shishu Park, Kalabagan was changed to Kalabagan Shishu Park, Shaheed Sheikh Russell Shishu Park, Jatrabari was renamed Jatrabari Shishu Park, Mayor Tapas Bridge was renamed as Kamrangirchar Bridge, Hossain Shaheed Sohrawardy Shishupark was renamed as Shahid Zia Shishu Park, Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon Social Event Center was renamed Gendaria Social Event Center, Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon Park was renamed as Sarafatganj Park, Mukti Joddha Advocate Kamrul Islam Social Event Center was renamed. It was decided to change the name to Kamrangirchar Social Event Center.
These structures were once known by different names. They were renamed when Syed Khokon and Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas were mayors.
In the president’s speech at the meeting, administrator Shahjahan Mia said, “After the July-August student uprising, new public expectations have been created. In keeping with the spirit of July, maximum citizen service should be ensured with limited resources.
