Former Chairman of NBR Najibur Rahman has been arrested
Former Chairman and Chief Secretary of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Najibur Rahman has been arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) police from Dhaka on Sunday night.
Another former chief secretary Abul Kalam Azad was arrested by the detective police from Dhanmondi in the capital on Saturday night.
Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) Police Chief Rezaul Karim Mallik confirmed the matter to the media.
He said, ‘Former Prime Minister’s Office Chief Secretary and former NBR Chairman Najibur Rahman has been arrested. He will be produced in court on Monday in a murder case. He will be remanded for 10 days for questioning.
In 2015, Najibur Rahman was appointed as the Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Secretary of Internal Resources Department. Then on December 31, 2017, he was made the new Chief Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office. He went on post-retirement leave on December 30, 2019.
Before the fall of the government, this former bureaucrat was the chairman of the Board of Governors formed to manage the ‘Capital Market Stabilization Fund’.
A 1982 regular batch administration cadre officer, Najib held the responsibilities of Secretary to the Ministry of Environment and Forests and Department of Statistics and Information Management and Director General of the Department of Environment before joining the Department of Internal Resources.
