Mymensingh is full of illegal clinics and diagnostic centers
More than three hundred hospitals and diagnostic centers have been built around Mymensingh Medical College Hospital like a frog’s umbrella. However, only 20 of them have renewed their licenses. Illegal clinics and diagnostics have been operating for years just by applying for licenses and renewals. The civil surgeon has issued a stern warning to take action against these institutions very soon. On August 13, a mobile court of RAB conducted a raid in the Brahmapalli area of Mymensingh city. During the raid, 8 private hospitals and diagnostic centers were fined 7 lakh 10 thousand taka and 8 people were jailed. The mobile court ordered the institutions to be closed due to mismanagement, unhealthy environment and lack of licenses. However, within a few days, those hospitals and diagnostic centers returned to their previous form. All the closed institutions including Palli Kalyan Private Hospital, New Rumma Nachiman Diagnostic Center, Al Aqsa Lab and Hospital, Success Lab and Hospital, Sunrise Hospital, Health Care Diagnostics are running without permission. Not only that, after seeing the raid, all the officials and staff left the patients inside the BRB Hospital and locked the gate and fled. The mobile court broke the lock and entered there and found various mismanagement. After the raid, this illegal institution is running in the same way. More than three hundred hospitals and diagnostic centers have grown like a frog’s umbrella around Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. According to the information of the Health Department, only 20 institutions have renewed their licenses. The illegal clinics and diagnostics have been operating for years only by applying for licenses and renewals. According to the information provided by the Department of Environment, the number of clinics and diagnostics that have received environmental clearances in Mymensingh is 40, of which 21 are hospitals and 19 are diagnostic centers. And there are 152 institutions without student cards. Sheikh Md. Nazmul Huda, Director of the Department of Environment, Mymensingh Divisional Office, said, they are not giving permission because they cannot fulfill the conditions. Admitting their inability to take action against these institutions, the leaders of the Clinic and Diagnostic Owners Association blamed the Health Department. Bangladesh Clinic and Diagnostic Owners Association Mymensingh District Branch General Secretary Mansur Alam Chandan said, our health system is responsible for the proliferation of clinics. Because there is never a plan to rein in here. Anyone starts a business with a trade license. Arrangements must be made so that no trade license is given without a license from the DG Health. He also said, “We are unable to take any action. If the Civil Surgeon gives a direction for two or three months, it cannot be operated later. Then it can be reined in. If we go alone to do something, many people, except the health department, will point fingers at us and ask why we are doing it.’ However, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Chaiful Islam Khan has strongly warned that action will be taken against illegal institutions soon. He said, ‘No clinic diagnostic can run for years with an incomplete application, it cannot be allowed to run. If we find anything like this in our campaign, we will immediately close them down and bring them under the law.’
