Must be vigilant as in a war situation: Chief Advisor

The Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has directed the law enforcement agencies to be alert as if they were in a war-like situation. At the same time, he directed them to form a command center to monitor the law and order situation and to take measures to file cases online for the convenience of the public. The Chief Advisor gave these instructions while reviewing the law and order situation at a high-level meeting with security chiefs at the State Guest House Jamuna on Monday.

Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Khoda Box Chowdhury, Home Secretary Nasimul Gani and the police chief along with officials of the BGB, RAB, DMP, Coast Guard and Special Branch.

Addressing the heads of the law enforcement agencies, the Chief Advisor said, “We have to be alert as if we are in a war-like situation. This year is a very critical year for the country. We will not allow anyone to create chaos and anarchy.” At this time, he ordered the security chiefs to be vigilant against any attempt to disrupt the law and order situation. In addition, the Chief Advisor directed the police and law enforcement agencies to set up a command center to closely monitor the law and order situation.

The Chief Advisor said that the security agencies must make maximum use of the latest communication equipment so that they can intervene quickly in any situation. Addressing senior security officials, he said that we need to set up a command center or a command headquarters, which will coordinate between all the police and security agencies. He said that the new command structure will efficiently and closely establish communication between all the agencies, police stations and all the law enforcement agencies in the country.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus said that the cronies of the ousted dictator Sheikh Hasina are spending a huge amount of money in their attempts to create anarchy and spread propaganda. We must be vigilant. Everyone must fight against this propaganda. At this time, he instructed the security chiefs to take special measures to protect the human rights of every citizen and prevent any attack on religious or ethnic minorities, saying, “If we cannot provide security to religious minorities, our image in the world will be severely damaged. We have to be very transparent about this too.” In addition, the chief advisor instructed the police to conduct a drive against extortionists to keep the prices of food and daily necessities stable during the upcoming Ramadan.

At the meeting, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam said that the police have formed 10 teams to monitor the murder cases filed in the atrocities and murders committed by Sheikh Hasina’s security forces in July-August. He said that Bangladesh has applied to Interpol in an attempt to issue a red notice regarding Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India. I hope to get a response soon. At this time, the chief advisor instructed the police to quickly dispose of these cases and ensure that no innocent people are harassed in these cases.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjad Ali said that the incidents of robbery and snatching have decreased in the capital due to the strengthening of police security. Our efforts will continue.

In the meeting, the Chief Advisor directed to introduce a system so that people can file cases online instead of going directly to the police station. Currently, FIRs have to be filed by going to a nearby police station. This process is quite time-consuming. This opens up opportunities for various types of harassment. In this context, Professor Yunus said that the police should set a dedicated call number, such as 999, through which complainants from anywhere in the country can file FIRs. This will reduce the hassle of filing cases. Directing the police chief to launch a new phone number for filing FIRs online as soon as possible, he said that a special police call center should be set up for this purpose, so that any questions related to filing cases online can be answered from there. Those who face problems in filing cases online can easily get help from this call center.
