Murder by friend: The mystery behind Ashraful being cut into 26 pieces has been revealed

The police and RAB have arrested two people in the murder of raw material trader Ashraful Haque (42). They were arrested in a drive in Dhaka and Comilla on Friday (November 14) evening. The arrested are Ashraful’s friend Jarezul Islam and his girlfriend Shamima Akhter.
Police and RAB sources said that based on information received during the investigation, the Dhaka Detective Branch (DB) arrested Jarezul from Daudkandi, Comilla. Shamima was arrested by RAB. Evidence of the murder was recovered from him at that time.
Earlier, on Thursday (November 13), after Ashraful’s 26 bodies were recovered from inside two drums near the gate of the National Eidgah ground in Dhaka, the DB started a shadow investigation into the incident. Md. Shafiqul Islam, head of the Detective (DB) division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the matter.
DB Joint Commissioner (South) Nasirul Islam is supervising the investigation of the case. He said that Jarejul was arrested and brought to the DB office. Based on his information, a blood-stained hammer was recovered from Doniya’s house. He confessed to killing Ashraful.
The DB official said that Ashraful and Malaysian expatriate Jarejul were childhood friends. They live in the same village in Rangpur. Three years ago, Jarejul met Shamima Akhter, the wife of an expatriate from Comilla, on the social networking site ‘Bigo Live’. Shamima lives in Comilla with her two children. At one point, Jarejul and Shamima got involved in a relationship.
He also said that Jarejul would occasionally come to the country from Malaysia and spend time with Shamima. Jarejul told his friend Ashraful about this relationship. At one point, Ashraful took Shamima’s phone number from Jarejul. He also contacted Shamima. Then a relationship developed between the two of them.
Stating that Jarejul returned to the country from Malaysia on September 23, the DB official said that he rented a house in Dhaka’s Dakshin Donia area and took Shamima with him. Shamima left her two children in Comilla. Last Tuesday, Jarejul came home with his friend Ashraful. At one point, Jarejul realized that Shamima was in love with Ashraful. Through this, Jarejul first crushed Ashraful by pressing him with a pillow and then hitting him on the head with a hammer.
Nasirul Islam said that such information was found during the initial interrogation of Jarejul. He also said that after the murder, Jarejul and Shamima stayed at the house with the body until last Wednesday night. Later, they planned to cut the body into pieces and throw it outside. Accordingly, the body was filled in two drums in 26 pieces last Wednesday night. The next day, Thursday evening, they loaded the drums into a van and left it near the gate of the National Eidgah ground and the two fled to Comilla.
It is worth mentioning that Ashraful’s body, 26 pieces, was found inside two blue drums near the gate of the National Eidgah ground on Thursday evening. Although his identity could not be identified immediately, the police later confirmed his identity through fingerprints. Ashraful is a resident of Nayapara village in Gopalpur union of Badarganj upazila of Rangpur. He has a 10-year-old daughter and a seven-year-old son. His father’s name is Md. Abdur Rashid. Ashraful’s sister Anjira Begum filed a murder case with Shahbagh police station yesterday.
