Muhannad lost his life due to airdrops during the Gaza war

A 15-year-old Palestinian boy has died after being crushed under a box of humanitarian aid dropped from the air in Gaza. Such an inhumane incident occurred amid Israel’s plan to occupy the war-torn valley. Al Jazeera reported that the aid package dropped from the air fell directly on Muhannad Zakaria Eid near the Netzarim Corridor in central Gaza on Saturday (August 9). A video footage verified by Al Jazeera shows locals surrounding Munnahad’s body after the incident and his brother carrying him on his shoulders. Another footage shows Munnahad’s father crying over his body at Al-Awda Hospital in Nusairat. “My brother went to get help because he was hungry, but the aid box dropped from the plane fell directly on him and he was killed,” Munnahad’s brother told Reuters. The incident has raised questions about the effectiveness and safety of air-dropped aid. The latest death comes after repeated warnings from international organizations, including the United Nations. The United Nations says the boxes are dangerous, ineffective and expensive. It has called on Israel to allow uninterrupted supplies of humanitarian aid to Gaza by land. Thousands of people are struggling for safe shelter and food amid Israel’s new ground offensive and heavy attacks in Gaza. The death toll from starvation is rising by the day. Severe heat and water shortages have compounded their misery. The homeless are spending their days in the scorching heat amid rubble. Parents are struggling to care for sick children. The Gaza government’s media office said at least 23 Palestinians have been killed and 124 others injured in airdrops of aid since the start of Israel’s war on the enclave in October 2023.
