Mother flees after giving birth on footpath

A mother fled after giving birth naturally on the footpath of Ullapara Municipality in Sirajganj.
The incident took place in the municipality on Tuesday night (October 7). Nurses from the local Care Hospital are currently taking care of the newborn.
Locals said that the woman who gave birth to the child is believed to be mentally unstable.
Ullapara Upazila Women’s Affairs Officer Nilufa Yasmin said, “I came to know about the matter on WhatsApp around 2 am. With the help of locals, the mother and the newborn were taken to the hospital. Later, it was found that the mother had fled.”
She said that the newborn is currently healthy and many people have been expressing interest in adopting the child since morning.
Nilufa Yasmin further said, “We have spoken to the UNO sir. After verification, the child will be handed over to a responsible and loving guardian. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abu Saleh Mohammad Hasnat said, “We are seriously discussing the matter. We are holding a meeting.” After verification, a decision will be taken on who will adopt the child.”
