Mother commits suicide after killing her infant son in Rangpur

A mother committed suicide after strangling her infant son in Rangpur. The incident took place in Ward No. 28 of the city’s Sajapur on Saturday (March 14) night. The deceased were identified as child Joydev Ghosh and mother Suchana Ghosh.
Police said that Suchana Ghosh (40), wife of Shankar Ghosh of the area, strangled her one-and-a-half-year-old son Joydev Ghosh and then committed suicide by tying a veil around her neck. The housewife’s husband is physically disabled and is a small grocery shopkeeper. In this incident, the police recovered the body and sent it to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
In this regard, the husband Shankar Ghosh said that his wife had been mentally disturbed for a long time. She had also been treated for it at various times. Rangpur Metropolitan Tajhat Police Station OC Ataur Rahman said that there was unrest in the family due to poverty. Whether the incident was due to a family dispute or mental illness will be known after the investigation.
