More than 700 prisoners, including 9 militants, are still on the run: Inspector General of Prisons

More than 700 prisoners, including 9 militants, are still on the run, said Inspector General of Prisons Brigadier General Syed Md. Motaher Hossain. He made this known at a press conference at the Prisons Department on Tuesday (August 26). The Inspector General of Prisons said that out of more than 2,200 fugitives since August 5, 2024, more than 700 are still on the run. Among them, 9 are militants. Brigadier General Syed Md. Motaher Hossain said that work is being done to recover 28 looted weapons. Rewards have been announced for the recovery of weapons. Stating that the Prisons Department is taking a strict stance against drugs, he said that initiatives have been taken to make prisoners productive. Work is being done to restore a conducive environment for prisoners. He further said that due to the overcrowding of prisoners, 2 new central prisons and 4 district prisons have been opened. In addition, initiatives have been taken to build a central prison hospital for prisoners in Narayanganj. Prisoners also call the Inspector General of Prisons from prisons from time to time.
