More than 300,000 Palestinians return to Gaza

More than 300,000 Palestinians have returned home on foot after the opening of the northern entrance to the Gaza Strip. They have returned to their homes after 470 days. The Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera reported this information in a report on Tuesday, citing the Gaza government media office.

The report said that more than 300,000 people have entered the northern part of Gaza from the southern part. However, the Palestinians have returned to the northern part and found “nothing but destruction.” Even so, the residents here are excited to return to their area after almost 15 months.

Earlier, at 9 am local time on Monday, the military zone Netzarim Corridor was opened to vehicle traffic. Two hours later, the Israeli military allowed entry on foot.

Since then, thousands of Palestinians have started coming to northern Gaza through the Netzarim Corridor. Many bring their belongings on horse or donkey carts. A banner reading “Welcome to Gaza” was hung in front of a damaged building on the main road in Gaza City, the central city of northern Gaza, at the time.

The report, citing the AFP news agency, said that more than 200,000 displaced people returned to Gaza on foot within two hours of the opening of the crossing. The Palestinian government has hired 5,500 workers to help residents of Gaza City and the northern area return home.

Meanwhile, UN special envoys and independent experts say that Israel’s repression of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank is increasing and there is no end in sight.

It is worth noting that at least 47,317 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. In addition, 111,494 people have been injured. Mosques, schools, hospitals, residential buildings, and even refugee camps in the Strip have not been spared from Israel’s indiscriminate attacks.

The Israeli aggression has forced more than two million residents to flee their homes. The indiscriminate attacks by this barbaric force have reduced Gaza to rubble.
