Mirpur-10 station of Metrorail is opening today
Metrorail Mirpur-10 station was launched. Passengers will be able to travel from the station from Tuesday morning.
Earlier on Monday afternoon in a press conference organized at the head office of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) in Uttara of the capital, the company’s managing director Mohammad Abdur Rauf informed about the launch of the station.
Miscreants ransacked Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations on the evening of July 19 during the ‘Complete Shutdown’ program called by the students’ anti-discrimination movement. They vandalized everything including the station’s ticket vending machine, passenger entry punch machine at the main station. As a result, the authorities were forced to close the two stations for 37 days.
The concerned officials said that at Mirpur-10 station, whether tickets are automatically issued from the machine, whether the entry and exit gates are opened after paying the fare, whether the train doors are opened at the station or not, these issues were checked last Thursday. Apart from this, it is checked whether the train arrival information is displayed correctly on the electronic screen at the station on that day and whether the audio announcement of the train information is being broadcast correctly or not. As the test was successful, it was decided to commission the station.
Metrorail service started from August 25, but two affected stations, Kazipara and Mirpur-10, remained closed. Later, the authorities repaired the Kazipara station at a low cost and reopened it on September 20.
It is to be noted that after the attack on Mirpur-10 station, Obaidul Quader, Minister of Road Transport and Bridges of the previous Awami League government, visited and said, ‘It will not be possible to open the metro stations even in a year.’
