Mexican Navy plane crashes off US coast, killing 5

A Mexican Navy plane has crashed off the coast of the US state of Texas, killing at least five people. The country’s navy said on Monday (December 22) that there were eight people on board the plane. Al Jazeera reports. The Mexican Navy Secretariat said in a statement that the plane, which was on a humanitarian aid mission, had eight people on board. Four were rescued alive and five died.
The plane crashed as it approached Galveston, Texas. The specialized medical transport mission was coordinated with a Mexican foundation that cares for severely burned children. According to flight tracking website Flight Radar, the plane took off from Merida in Mexico’s Yucatan state.
