Media misrepresented my statement: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the media has misrepresented my statement regarding the withdrawal of the harassment case against the Awami League in my union. He said this in a press release on Tuesday (November 11) evening.
In the press release, Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘The statement I gave at a view-exchange meeting at Mohammadpur Shapla Government Primary School ground in Sadar Upazila of Thakurgaon in the afternoon has been misinterpreted and presented in various media, which is very unfortunate. I said in my statement, we do not want to do revenge politics. We do not want to file harassment cases like the Awami League.
I also said in my statement, if there is any harassment case in this union, we will withdraw it. However, I did not make any statement about filing a nationwide harassment case or withdrawing the case. I appeal to the people of the country and party leaders and workers at all levels not to be confused by the wrong statements published in the media.’
In this context, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said at a rally in Thakurgaon yesterday (November 11) afternoon, we do not want to file a case the way the Awami League has filed a case. Even if a case is filed, I promise you that all the cases will be withdrawn. We will withdraw all the cases against the Awami League. We will not indulge in the politics of revenge and retaliation.
The headlines and photo cards of many media reports on his statement said, “We will withdraw all the cases against the Awami League.” Some reports gave partial explanations instead of the full details of his statement, which created confusion.
