Measles vaccination program to start from Sunday: Health Minister

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain said that the measles vaccination program will start from next Sunday. He also said that initially, children aged 6 months to 10 years will be vaccinated in high-infection upazilas.
The Health Minister said this at a press conference at the Secretariat on Wednesday (April 1). Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain said, “We will collect the vaccines and syringes between Thursday and Friday and send them across the country. All the leaves of health workers have been canceled to complete the nationwide vaccination program properly.”
The Health Minister said that as an emergency measure, the government is borrowing 2 crore 19 lakh doses of measles vaccine from Gavi (Global Alliance for Vaccines Initiative). This vaccine will be administered later. He said that currently, sufficient ventilators are ready to deal with measles. The required number of beds have also been prepared in hospitals.
