Massive fire in supermarket in Iraq, 50 killed
At least 50 people have been killed in a massive fire at a supermarket in the eastern Iraqi city of Al Kut, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported on Thursday (July 17), citing a provincial official. According to the report, a five-story building in the city of Al Kut caught fire on Wednesday (July 16) night. The building then burned throughout the night. Several videos circulated on social media showed firefighters trying to bring the fire under control at night. The cause of the fire is not yet known. However, the governor of Al Kut said that an investigation into the incident has been launched. The initial results of the investigation will be announced within 48 hours. The governor also said that a case has been filed against the owner of the building and the shopping mall.
