Malaysia to provide $23.5 million in aid for Gaza: PM
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced another $23.6 million (23.6) in aid in solidarity with the people of Gaza. Thousands of Malaysians led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim gathered at Kuala Lumpur’s historic Merdeka Square to express solidarity with the people of Gaza and condemn Israel’s actions, the country’s state news agency Bernama reported on Sunday (August 24) local time. In his speech, the prime minister strongly condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Anwar Ibrahim also called him cruel and insane for his brutality against innocent children in Gaza. Dressed in white and wearing the traditional keffiyeh scarf, men, women and children gathered in support of Gaza, where Anwar announced more aid for the war-torn people of the Gaza Strip. Many took part in the rally carrying placards with slogans such as ‘For Gaza’ and ‘Anti-Israel’. The evening rally, titled ‘My Malaysia with Gaza’, was the finale of the three-day ‘Sumud Nusantara Carnival’, which ran from August 22 to 24. The carnival featured attractions such as a virtual reality-based ‘Gaza Time Tunnel’ experience and a film screening on the Palestinian struggle. Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Anwar said he called on the Muslim ummah and the international community to continue to exert pressure on Israel to stop its brutality. It is worth noting that more than 62,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli operation in Gaza since October 2023. The military operation has reduced the Gaza Strip to rubble, where famine has now set in.
