Malaysia ready to send peacekeepers to Gaza

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia is ready to send peacekeepers to Gaza. Kuala Lumpur is ready to join the peacekeeping mission in Gaza with other countries, including members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Anadolu Agency reported.
The report said that Anwar made the remarks during a bilateral meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who is attending the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday (October 26).
A statement issued by the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office said that Malaysia reiterated its strong position on the Palestinian struggle and welcomed the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which is in line with the consistent position of the UN, which confirmed that the Israeli government’s humanitarian blockade of Gaza is a clear violation of international law.
During the meeting, Anwar and Guterres discussed Malaysia’s role as ASEAN chairman, which included facilitating peace talks between Thailand and Cambodia and encouraging inclusive dialogue in Myanmar.
The Gaza ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, brokered by regional and international partners under a 20-point plan proposed by the United States, took effect on October 10.
Meanwhile, as the ceasefire enters its third week, Gaza residents are living in rubble and uncertainty. Some 66,000 tons of unexploded ordnance still lie buried beneath the rubble of southern Gaza. Despite the U.S.-brokered ceasefire, thousands of people are at risk of these bombs every day. Children have lost their lives playing in the rubble.
