Magistrate fines man for ‘standing urinating’ in public
A mobile court has fined a man named Alauddin (40) for ‘standing urinating’ in Harinakundu, Jhenaidah. On Friday (January 16) afternoon, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Executive Magistrate Syedjadi Mahbuba Manjur Mouna conducted the court in the Parbatipur area. The convicted Alauddin is the son of Rafi Hossain of Parbatipur village of Harinakundu Municipality.
According to local sources, a market was held in Parbatipur market last Friday. There were a lot of people in the market during the market. In the afternoon, the man was standing and urinating in an open area on the side of the road. The Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Harinakundu Upazila was passing by at that time. He saw the incident and after questioning him, conducted the mobile court. The incident went viral as soon as it was shared on Facebook.
However, many thanked the administration for the fine, saying that the matter was objectionable from an Islamic point of view.
Syedjadi Mahbuba Manjur Mouna said that the person was urinating in a public place. The matter was found objectionable, so he was fined Tk 100 in a mobile court under Section 291 of the Penal Code of 1860. However, she could not confirm whether the place where the person urinated was a reserved area or a designated public gathering area.
Harinakundu Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Didarul Alam said, “Yesterday I heard that a person was fined in a mobile court for urinating in the open. The market is a public gathering area. For this reason, he can take action according to the law if he wants.”
