Lukashenko elected president of Belarus for seventh term

Alexander Lukashenko has been elected president of Belarus for the seventh time. He has ruled the country for 30 years in 6 consecutive terms. With this victory, he will serve as president for another five years.

In a report, the British media outlet BBC News reported this information.

According to the report, the presidential election was held in the country on Sunday local time. The head of the Central Election Commission, Igor Karpenko, said that Lukashenko won the election with 86.82 percent of the vote. No other candidate received even 5 percent of the vote.

As a result of this election victory, Lukashenko will remain in power until 2030. Lukashenko is the first and only leader in the history of Belarus to be elected president for 7 consecutive terms.

Lukashenko has been ruling the country since 1994. Belarus emerged as an independent state after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. After independence, the country’s interim head of government was Stanislav Shushkevich, the chairman of the former Soviet Belarusian state. Then, in 1994, the first presidential election was held in Belarus, and Lukashenko won.
