Life imprisonment for 10 people in Rajbari

A court has sentenced 10 people to life imprisonment, fined them Tk 20,000 and acquitted 3 people for slitting the throat of a farmer named Chattar Mridha over a land dispute in Rajbari’s Pansha. Rajbari Additional District and Sessions Judge Ashok Kumar Saha announced the verdict on Monday (November 10) afternoon.
The accused sentenced to life imprisonment are – Sayeed Mridha, Monirul Sheikh, Ashraful Sheikh, Ashraf Sheikh, Asad Sheikh, Filu Mridha, Tofazzel alias Tofa, Mahatab Sheikh, Thandu and Miraj Mridha. Thandu and Miraj Mridha were absconding at the time of the verdict. Shefali Khatun, Chneta Khatun and Halima Khatun were acquitted.
According to the case source, on June 16, 2018, at 7 am, Abdus Chhattar attacked Mridha and her family members in Jagir Malanchi village of Pangsha upazila of Rajbari district over a land dispute. In this incident, Abdus Chhattar killed Mridha by slitting her throat. In this incident, his wife Rashida Parveen filed a case against 17 people and 4-5 unknown people as the plaintiff. Public Prosecutor of Rajbari District and Sessions Judge Court Md. Abdur Razzak said that according to the evidence in the case, 10 people have been sentenced to life imprisonment, a fine of Tk 20,000 and three have been acquitted. At the time of the verdict, two accused were absconding.
