Lebanon-Israel meeting in Washington on Tuesday

Lebanon and Israel will meet in the US capital, Washington, on Tuesday (April 14). Tel Aviv has agreed to attend the meeting at the invitation of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. However, Israel has made it clear that while it will hold talks with the Lebanese government, it will not hold any dialogue with the armed group Hezbollah.
The Israeli ambassador to the United States has said that they have no plans to hold any talks with Hezbollah on a ceasefire. He claims that the organization is the biggest obstacle to a possible peace agreement between the two countries. At the same time, he complains that Hezbollah is constantly attacking Israel.
Meanwhile, protests have been held in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, after news of the meeting with Israel was released. Protesters claim that the current Lebanese government does not truly represent the people. They complain that the administration is being run under the influence of the United States and Israel.
Meanwhile, Israeli attacks are still ongoing in various parts of Lebanon. The death toll from Wednesday’s devastating bombardment has risen to 357, with at least 1,223 injured, according to the country’s Health Ministry. The death toll is expected to rise as the rubble is being cleared. The Israeli military has claimed that at least 180 Hezbollah fighters have been killed in the latest attacks.
Earlier, a meeting was held on Friday (April 10) between the Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors to the United States and the US ambassador to Beirut. It was decided to meet at the US State Department next Tuesday. The terms of the ceasefire will be discussed at Tuesday’s meeting. A senior official in the president’s office said that if both sides agree, a time will be set for direct talks later.
