Leaders defecting from BNP have started to flock
Monir Hossain Qashemi, the central leader of Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islami, was declared a candidate from the BNP alliance for the Narayanganj-4 constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election. Soon after, he formed an alliance with controversial and fascist leaders. As a result, Monir Hossain Qashemi has lost his acceptance among the anti-fascist student crowd of Fatullah and the ward-level leaders and activists of the BNP police station.
BNP leaders and activists have complained that a large section of BNP is unable to accept Monir Hossain Qashemi due to his alliance with fascist and controversial people. Among them, several BNP leaders have submitted their nomination papers as independent candidates. The Election Commission has also declared their nomination papers valid.
The rebel candidates are – former MP of Narayanganj-4 constituency and former president of the district BNP Mohammad Gias Uddin and BNP executive member Mohammad Shah Alam. In addition, freedom fighter Mohammad Ali bought the nomination in the name of BNP, later submitting his nomination papers as a candidate of the Republican Party. Leaders and activists have alleged that among those with whom Monir Hossain Qashemi formed an alliance is Maulana Ferdawsur Rahman, the secretary of the Narayanganj district committee of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam. He is known as a follower of Shamim Osman, the godfather of the fascist Awami League. There is also a case against Ferdawsur Rahman in connection with the attack on the student crowd during the July Movement.
