Lawyer beaten by miscreants dies

A lawyer named Naeem Kibria (35), who was beaten by miscreants in the capital’s Bashundhara residential area, died while undergoing treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital. The body of the deceased was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy on Thursday (January 1) morning. The deceased Naeem Kibria is a resident of Chak Joyenpur village in Pabna Sadar upazila. He is the son of Golam Kibria of that village and was a lawyer by profession.
Bhatara Police Station SI Md. Ariful Islam said that upon receiving information, Naeem Kibria’s body was recovered from a trolley at Kurmitola General Hospital. Later, the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy after completing the necessary legal procedures.
Police said that initially it was learned that Naeem Kibria was driving a private car when his car collided with a motorcycle in Bashundhara residential area last night. After the incident, the riders who got off the motorcycle attacked the driver of the private car, Naeem Kibria. They started kicking and punching him, due to which he was seriously injured. At one point, the miscreants left him at the spot and fled. Later, when the relatives got the information, they rescued Naeem Kibria in an injured state and took him to Kurmitola General Hospital. He died there while undergoing treatment. The SI further said that saliva-like substance was coming out of the deceased’s mouth. The smell of intoxicating liquor was detected from his breath and there were injury marks on various parts of the body. However, despite all this, the real cause of death will be known for sure only after receiving the autopsy report. The incident is being investigated. Police said that further legal action is under process in this regard.
