Land server down for one and a half months causing extreme public suffering.
Due to problems with the land service server, land registration and collection of rent (land development tax) have been closed for more than one and a half months in Matlab Uttar Upazila of Chandpur. At the same time, all land-related services and Khatian (accounting) service activities are closed.
The concerned said that the online land service server has been closed since November 26.
Meanwhile, people in the area are unable to register their land due to the closure of registration and rent. This is causing extreme public suffering. The government is losing revenue due to the closure of the server.
In addition, due to the non-payment of rent and registration, it is almost impossible to register documents at the sub-registry office. This has caused extreme public suffering. The people of this upazila are facing various crises due to not being able to buy and sell land.
However, the Upazila Land Office said that the activities are being started very quickly. In this regard, Mofizul Islam of Chengarchar Municipality of the upazila said, ‘We have not been able to pay our land rent for about one and a half months due to server problems. Since we have not been able to pay the rent, it is not possible to register the land. We are in a lot of trouble.’
A. Baten of Farazikandi area of the upazila said, ‘We need to sell some land urgently. For this, we need to register. We cannot register the land due to server problems, so we cannot sell the land.’
Swapan of Torki village said, ‘Now all land services are online-based. Since the online server is down, we cannot register.’
Meanwhile, Tofail Ahmed (Ripon Muktar), a document writer at the Matlab Uttar Upazila Sub-Registry Office, said, ‘Land registration has decreased a lot due to the lack of document registration except for the latest rent receipt. Earlier, 30-45 documents were registered every week. There are now a maximum of 10-15 document registrations per week.
Upazila Sub-Registrar Mahbuber Rahman Wazed said, “The number of document registrations is relatively higher in December compared to other months. But the number of document registrations has decreased as people are unable to pay land rent. This is because, in the case of document registration, there is a requirement for the receipt of the updated land rent.”
Matlab Uttar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Hillol Chakma said, “There is a temporary problem with the land service server due to software upgrade. The Land Ministry is working on the issue. This problem will be resolved very soon.”
