Land dispute in Kurigram, three members of the same family killed

A land dispute has erupted in Roumari upazila of Kurigram. Three members of the same family were killed in the clash. At least 6 people were injured. The incident took place on Thursday (July 24) afternoon in Bhundurchar village of Roumari Sadar Union of the upazila. The deceased are Fulbabu (43), son of the late Golam Shahidul Islam, his brother Bulu Mia (52), and Nurul Amin (30), son of their other brother Anwar Hossain. According to police and local sources, there had been a long-standing dispute over four and a half bighas of land between Shahidul Islam’s family and the neighboring Rabbanis of Bhundurchar village of Sadar Union of the upazila. Due to this, both sides got involved in a clash with local weapons on Thursday afternoon. Shahidul Islam’s two sons and grandson died in the clash. Upazila Health Complex doctor Abdus Samad confirmed the death and said one of the injured has been sent to Mymensingh Medical College. Upazila Executive Officer Ujjwal Kumar Saha also confirmed the incident. Roumari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Lutfur Rahman said one person has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident. Additional police have been deployed in the area and the situation is currently under control.
