Labor party leader shot dead in Khulna, 1 arrested

A labor party leader named Masum Billah was shot and hacked to death by miscreants in Khulna city. The incident took place at Dakbanglo intersection in the city around 9 pm on Wednesday (March 4).
The deceased Masum Billah is the son of the late Minhaj Uddin Munshi of Bagmara village in Rupsa upazila. He is the former president of the Rupsa-Bagerhat Inter-district Road Transport Workers Union and the convener of the Upazila Labor Party. In this incident, the police have arrested a person named Ashok Ghosh with a foreign pistol.
CCTV footage shows that Masum Billah was shopping for Eid with his family members in front of a shop at Dakbanglo intersection around 9 pm yesterday. Suddenly, a group of six to seven people surrounded him. He was stabbed and injured with sharp weapons. Later, shots were fired to confirm his death.
The sound of gunfire spread panic throughout the area. When locals came forward, the attackers tried to escape. At that time, a traffic policeman on duty and with the help of the public, a person named Ashok Ghosh was arrested along with a foreign pistol.
When the bullet-injured Masum Billah was taken to Khulna Medical College (Khumec) Hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead. Police said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue. The initial suspicion of the police is that the murder was committed due to previous enmity.
