Kuwait introduces mandatory drug testing for airport staff

Drug tests, including alcohol, have been made mandatory for all employees working at Kuwait International Airport. The country has taken this step to strengthen security standards, the country’s media outlet Kuwait Times reported. The Civil Aviation Authority of Kuwait said that all employees working at the airport will have to undergo medical screening, especially those whose licenses are issued by the authority. The tests will include drugs, psychotropic substances and alcohol and must be completed by an authorized medical institution within a month. The institutions must submit proof of the tests by September 4, including copies of test reports or certified medical reports. An institution has already informed its employees with technical licenses that the tests will begin on Monday and that refusal to take the test will be considered a positive result. The aviation authority said that the aim of implementing the new policy is to ensure maximum safety in airport operations and maintain public confidence in the country’s main regional hub.
