KUET academic activities resume after 160 days
After a long 160 days, academic activities have resumed at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET). Student attendance in classrooms has increased since Tuesday (July 29) morning. The university authorities said that all the remaining crises will be resolved in phases. On the other hand, the teachers’ association has announced to take classes for three weeks, reversing its previous decision. Students have expressed relief as the academic activities have resumed. Earlier, on February 18, more than a hundred students were injured in clashes with outsiders during the students’ movement demanding an end to politics on the KUET campus. Since that incident, the university’s activities have come to a standstill due to various demands of students and teachers. To resolve the crisis, the government appointed Dr. Md. Maksud Helali, a retired professor of BUET’s Mechanical Engineering Department, as the new Vice-Chancellor of KUET on July 24.
