Khaleda Zia’s grief is irreparable: Mirza Fakhrul

Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the grief expressed over the death of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is irreparable, the nation will never be able to fill it. He made the remarks in an emotional voice at a briefing at Evercare Hospital in the capital on Tuesday (December 30) morning. The BNP Secretary General said, “We never thought that we would have to stand before you with this news. We hoped that this time too she would recover as well as before.”
He said, “We are burdened… You have already heard the announcement of the Chief Medical Board Professor Shahabuddin Talukder that the mother of our democracy, the guardian of our nation, left us at 6 am today. Inna lillahi wa illallahi raji’un. This grief, this loss… it is extraordinary, irreparable. This nation will never be able to fill it.”
Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘The leader Begum Khaleda Zia, who dedicated her entire life for the rights and welfare of the people, is no longer with us… We, her colleagues and political workers, cannot think of this. A huge void has been created in Bangladeshi politics. Not only that, a huge void has also been created in the democratic movement of the democratic world.’
Chief advisor’s phone call
The BNP Secretary General said, ‘The chief advisor of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, called us immediately. They have already decided that they will hold a special cabinet meeting at 10:30 am. In that cabinet meeting, they will hold a meeting on Begum Khaleda Zia’s last rites, her funeral, her burial… They will hold a meeting on the issue of burying her with state honors, granting her state honors. After that, we will coordinate the entire matter and inform you about it again.’
Emergency meeting of the standing committee
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, ‘Our party’s standing committee meeting will be held at 12:30 pm. In that meeting, we will take more detailed programs. And we will coordinate with all the government’s programs and inform you about those issues later.’
Earlier, the head of the medical board formed for Khaleda Zia, Professor Shahabuddin Talukder, officially announced that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia breathed her last in the ICU at 6 am.
The briefing was attended by party standing committee member Mirza Abbas, Professor AZM Zahid Hossain and members of the medical board. Begum Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on November 23. On November 27, when her condition deteriorated, she was taken to the CCU. She was on life support until the last moment.
