Khaleda Zia will meet her son after seven years.
Finally, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will leave for the UK from Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport at 10 pm today, Tuesday for better treatment. After arriving at Heathrow Airport tomorrow, Wednesday, she will be directly admitted to the London Clinic, an institution under the National Health Service (NHS), the UK’s national healthcare program.
Khaleda Zia’s personal physician Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain said on Monday that after landing at London’s Heathrow Airport via Doha, Qatar, she will be admitted to the specialized hospital ‘London Clinic’. The doctors there will take all decisions regarding her treatment.
Extensive security measures have been tightened at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport in Dhaka in view of Khaleda Zia’s visit to the UK for better treatment. In addition, special instructions have been given to party leaders and activists to keep the airport road normal. The former prime minister last went to London for treatment on July 15, 2017. On the way to the airport, there was a traffic jam due to the large presence of party leaders and activists and the government not taking necessary initiatives to keep the road normal. As a result, Khaleda Zia’s motorcade had to reach the airport quite late and public suffering also occurred. This time, keeping these two issues in mind, special instructions have been given to party leaders and activists to keep the road normal. Four Qatari royals, ten doctors and nurses, family members and personal officials and employees, along with six others, are staying with Khaleda Zia in a specially equipped Qatar Air Ambulance courtesy of the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The air ambulance carrying former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is scheduled to land at Heathrow Airport in the UK tomorrow, Wednesday. She will be received by her eldest son, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. Through this, the mother and son will meet after a long 7 years. Earlier, in 2017, when Tarique Rahman went to the UK for treatment, he himself drove his mother Khaleda Zia to his home, which was a positive discussion about Tarique Rahman in the political arena at that time.
Doctors could not provide any information about when Khaleda Zia would be able to return home after treatment. Due to this, a kind of emotional anxiety has arisen among party leaders and activists. However, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is scheduled to return home after performing Umrah after treatment. BNP sources said that the special air ambulance of the Emir of Qatar landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 7:15 pm on Monday.
After more than three months of treatment, Khaleda Zia returned home from the UK on October 18, 2017. She was showered with love from leaders and activists from the airport in Dhaka to her Gulshan home Firoza. After returning home, Khaleda Zia went to Cox’s Bazar to visit the Rohingya camp. Crowds gathered on the road on the way there and back. On February 8, 2018, the year of the 11th National Parliament election, the Sheikh Hasina government sentenced Khaleda Zia to prison in a baseless case. The former prime minister continued to suffer from various diseases due to not being given the necessary treatment while in prison. In this situation, the BNP was trying to take Khaleda Zia abroad for better treatment. The party protested against the then Sheikh Hasina government on this demand. Khaleda Zia’s family also repeatedly appealed to the government at that time. But Sheikh Hasina did not respond to it.
After Sheikh Hasina fled during the student and public movement on August 5, all doors were opened. 79-year-old Begum Khaleda Zia was released. At the same time, the party started preparing for her better treatment. After changing the date several times due to physical illness, she is finally leaving for London today. There is a kind of emotion working among the party leaders and workers around Begum Zia’s going abroad for treatment. They are preparing to bid farewell to Begum Zia at the airport.
BNP’s Dhaka Metropolitan North convener Aminul Haque said, when Madam’s motorcade leaves for the airport from her Gulshan residence, party leaders and activists will be able to stand on both sides of the road and wave their hands to greet Madam. But no motorcycles or any other vehicles will be allowed. This decision has been taken to make it easier for Madam’s motorcade to reach the airport and to reduce public suffering. This special message has been conveyed to party leaders and activists.
