“Khaleda Zia is the leader of the people, not of power” – Shamsul Alam’s comments at the prayer mahfil in Chittagong
Yesterday, Wednesday (December 3, 2025), a different atmosphere of prayer mahfil was organized by the BNP at Patharghata “C” Unit No. 34 under the Kotwali Police Station of Chittagong-9 constituency to pray for the recovery of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. “She is not the leader of power, but the leader of the people” – the chief guest was Shamsul Alam.
Alhaj Md. Shamsul Alam, a member of the BNP Central Executive Committee, was present as the chief guest at the prayer mahfil. He said, “Begum Khaleda Zia is the most steadfast, courageous and uncompromising leader of the democratic struggle in Bangladesh. She is not the leader of power, but the leader of the people – who has fought all her life to protect the rights of the people.” His speech contained political emotion on the one hand, and an expression of respect and compassion for a long-time comrade-in-arms on the other.
The event was attended by special guests including former acting general secretary of the city BNP M.A. Sabur, veteran leader Haji Delwar Sawdagar, former president of Ward No. 33 BNP Akhter Khan, convener of Ward No. 34 BNP Md. Hasan and member secretary Md. Salauddin, along with leaders of various wards.

Raihan, Minhajul Islam Ratul, Sadman Jafri, 34 Patharghata Ward Jubo Dal leader Jahangir, Md. Zahed, Md. Salahuddin, Naeem Faisal, Ishtiaq Hossain, Md. Osman. Patharghata Ward No. 34 Volunteer Party Convener Md. Saim, Joint Convener Jamal, Members Mehedi Hasan Saimon, Main Uddin Sagar and other active party workers.
Young leaders of Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal were also present. They said, “This prayer meeting is not just a political formality—it is a kind of expression of mental unity.” At the end of the prayer meeting, a special prayer was offered wishing Begum Khaleda Zia a speedy recovery, good health and long life. The leaders and activists said, “Madam, get well soon—this is the wish of all of us.”
